Out of the Depths Reception & Artist Talk

Come view artwork by Joe Cory and Fadi BouKaram in the exhibit Out of the Depths: A Collaborative Exhibition Exploring the Complex Nature of the Migrant Crisis.  Free, all ages, and open to the public.

The artist talk will begin at 4:30PM, and will be followed by a brief intro to what's happening locally with refugees presented by John Barnett of Refuge Louisville. Local artist Bethany Kenny will share her soon-to-be-released coloring book for refugee kids and pastries and spiced tea made by a local refugee family will be served.

In the exhibition statement, curator Matt Schneider writes, "Powerful images of the middle east are juxtaposed with paintings based on filtered information mediated by American news sources. Motifs of water and navigational symbols further pervade the imagery, as viewers are challenged to rethink their assumptions about what it means to be living in the Middle East and a refugee."

Out of the Depths will be on view in the gallery October 29 - December 3, 2017.
